Recently Google posted an official statement regarding comment spamming. In the past Big G tried to fight this with introducing “nofollow”-attribute, at least this was the official story. We all know that “nofollow” was introduced to fight paid-links and yet another cry for help. Basically when Google does issue a statement like this they simply say: “We can’t handle this problem alone, we will try to scare webmasters off, maybe this will reduce the problem.” Don’t get me wrong, I don’t encourage comment spamming, in the past I have had few blogs and forums which were a pain in the ass on fighting spam. The simple fact that Google issue a statement like this proofs that comment spamming still have positive impact on website’s rankings. Off course till some Google employee reviews your links manually and applies a filter or a penalty on your website.
Whenever you decide to keep on spamming it’s your decision only, you will have to deal with the risk getting caught. I don’t think that Google will see much improvement trying to solve the problems like this using webmasters and not trying to think of a soloution through it’s technology.
Few tips to prevent any comment-spamming penalty applied by Google:
- Try to comment only if you have something valueble to say. Don’t post messages like “Great post, I have really enjoyed reading it!”. Keep it relevant to the blog post and try to start a discussion with the blog author or other commentators.
- Don’t buy any link building services that include “one-way links from high PR sites”, those people mainly spam blogs here and there causing this problem in the first place. It will only hurt you in the long run.
- Don’t post comments only on high PR blogs, try to comment also on PR0-PR3 blogs as this way your links look more natural. In fact I would recommend to comment for 80% on low PR blogs and only 20% on high PR blogs.
- Keep it al theme-related, try to comment only on blogs that relate to your own website. Posting comments on blogs about puppies with a link to your insurance website (unless it’s mainly about pet insurance) will get you in troubles.
